The 1939 Register is the only surviving record of the population between 1921 and 1951.  The 1931 census was destroyed during the war and the 1941 census was never taken.

Regulations: personal details of people in the Register who were born less than 100 years ago and are still alive are “CLOSED”.  The Register was updated until 1991, persons who died after 1991 will be “CLOSED a blank row indicating the number of persons in the household alive at that point".

Example, Schedule No.3, sub No.'s. 1 & 2 are blank, if the enumerator followed the normal route Schedule No.3 will be Normanby Manor the head of household & wife alive in 1991!  Schedule No.1 Sub. No.3; Mary Pauline Wynne Tweedie (strikethrough) name change on marriage, details in italics address column indicating she married for the 2nd time William B Wilson 17.2.47.
